About Dr. Furman

Dr Mark Furman is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal conditions in children and adolescents.
He sees private patients regularly at the HCA Golders Green Diagnostic & Outpatient Centre and also at The Portland Hospital, where he also performs paediatric endoscopy procedures. In addition, runs some ad hoc clinics at HCA The Waterfront Clinic.
Dr Furman’s NHS practice is based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, where he is part of the Mucosal Immunology and GI Allergy division in the Paediatric Gastroenterology Department.
His clinical areas include gastro-oesophageal reflux, food allergy and intolerance, coeliac disease, eosinophilic oesophagitis, constipation, and inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Dr Furman has a particular special interest and recognised expertise in Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) and related eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGID). He is a member of the National BSPGHAN Working Group for EoE and serves on the Executive Committee of the European ESPGHAN Working Group for EoE/EGID, contributing to the development of national and international guidance, research, and clinical practice in this field.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Furman is Chief Medical Information Officer at the Royal Free, leading Trust-wide digital transformation initiatives with a focus on innovation and improving patient care through technology.
Dr Furman graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1991 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery, and also completed a Diploma in Child Health thereafter. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997 and was later elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
He is actively involved in clinical research, and he lectures at national and international conferences and contributes to several specialist committees across the UK and Europe.
